About This Novel

Meizhou, Guangdong, is a famous "hometown of culture". The Hakka people endure hardships and stand hard work, start businesses and value literature and education. They are guided by the Confucian cultural thoughts of loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, justice, etiquette, wisdom and trust, and self-cultivation to govern the country and bring peace to the world. They have inherited the ancient Han culture. Couplets are one of the outstanding traditional cultures of the Chinese nation. After the Ming Dynasty, a number of famous couplet writers came into being, and specialized couplet books sprung up, adding fuel to the fire for this excellent literary genre of the Han nation that is appreciated by both refined and popular people. Meizhou is located in the northeast of Guangdong. The economic development in northeastern Guangdong has stimulated the popularity of couplet culture. This book contains nearly 3,000 couplets from more than 400 couplet authors, which are the most representative and outstanding couplet works in Meizhou during this period. When the author compiled the book, in order to facilitate readers' reading, he made brief notes on the creative background of some of the couplets, and also appreciated and commented on some of the couplets.
