About This Novel

The inherent kink and conspiracy between modern "academic paradigms" and "critical discourse" constitute some deep-seated problems in the overall activities of modern Chinese and Western literary research. At the same time, they shape the phenomenon of "the century of literary criticism" and inherently represent the core of the proposition of modernity. Specifically, the "knowledge downward trend" and "cultural rescue" from the 1870s to the 1930s, these two era circumstances, jointly promoted the modern transformation of the literary research paradigm. The "humanity" characteristics of the overall intellectual and cultural space that they jointly formed determined the fundamental quality of the modern transformation and reconstruction of the literary research paradigm during the period. The "modern establishment of literature", as a product inherent in this intellectual and cultural space, not only directly initiated the modern transformation of Chinese and Western literary research paradigms, but also structurally contributed to the "historical pattern" of modern literary research in China and the "theoretical pattern" in the West. These two patterns inherently shaped the paradigmatic direction of historiography or theorization in modern literary research activities. Modern "critical discourse" is intrinsically and structurally produced in the "modern establishment of literature", and has acquired basic institutional qualities and active humanistic characteristics, and has widely penetrated into the modern pattern of historiographic or theoretical literary research, exerting a core influence on the modern research paradigm of literature.
