About This Novel

The first draft of "Masters Speak of Traditional Culture Series: An Introduction to Qing Dynasty Academics" was written in 1920. It was originally a preface written by Liang Qichao for his friend Jiang Fangzhen's "History of the European Renaissance". This book is not a specialized historical work that simply discusses the "transformation of the ideological world" in the Qing Dynasty. It is also a personal academic memoir of Liang Qichao. In the book, Liang Qichao re-discussed the academic development of the Qing Dynasty and proposed "retroversion as liberation" as the general characteristic of the academic development of the Qing Dynasty. Mr. Liang's summary of Qing Dynasty academic theories and the academic spirit he displayed are still of benefit to today's Chinese academic circles.
