About This Novel

"Shi Pin" is the first Chinese poetry theory work, written by Zhong Rong during the Qi and Liang Dynasties. "Shipin" evaluates more than 120 poets from the Han Dynasty to the Qi and Liang Dynasties, divided into upper, middle and lower grades. The poets, their origins and systems are traced back to the six arts, so they are profound and far-reaching. Among them, the historical view of poetry, the theory of poetry's origin, the theory of poetry's essence, the theory of poetic style, the theory of creation, the aesthetics of poetry, as well as the historical criticism, comparative criticism, judgment criticism, excerpt criticism, and material criticism of "Shi Pin" have been passed down to generations and have influenced future generations. They have had a significant impact on the development of Chinese literary theory, poetry theory, and Japanese waka theory, and have the significance of laying the foundation for poetics. "Shi Pin Notes" is based on the earliest extant Yuan Dynasty journal "Shi Pin" written by Song Zhang Ruyu's "Research on Mr. Shantang's Qun Shu". It consults more than 50 editions at home and abroad after the Ming Dynasty and Zhengde, corrects errors in words, annotates allusions and quotes, and provides precise and detailed explanations. This book is both a book of commentary and a book of research.
