About This Novel

This is a biographical work that compiles and records the works and lives of writers whose books were burned during the "Book Burning Incident" of the German Nazis. In May 1933, the German Nazis burned the works of 94 German-speaking writers and 37 non-German-speaking writers in Berlin, and launched a book burning campaign across the country, burning tens of thousands of books. Volker Weidmann re-interviewed and collected information on the book-burning writers, and sorted out the appearance of their works and life experiences through various clues. The writers involved include literary giants such as Stefan Zweig, Joseph Rotter, Brecht, Thomas Mann, Remarque, and many more writers who have disappeared into the fog of history.
