The Gospel of America: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of America
About This Novel
In the early years of the twenty-first century, some Americans believed that the United States had strayed too far from God; others worried that some religious fanatics were waging a "holy war" against America's liberal traditions; and many Americans seemed to believe that they were living in a country hopelessly divided by religion. In fact, none of the above points are to the point. The good news about America-what the author calls the American gospel-is that it allows religion to shape America without letting it kill it.
