About This Novel
"Manipulation 1942" is the third part of writer Ma Ying's "Ancient City Spy Trilogy". The first two "Latent 1936" and "Secret Investigation 1938" were published by Writers Publishing House in May 2009 and July 2011 respectively. This novel tells the story of Wu Boying, an underground member of the Communist Party of China, who used his identity as a Central Unification agent and other agents in Xi'an from 1936 to 1942 to eliminate Japanese spies and promote the revolution; to reveal the truth about Chiang Kai-shek's murder of Eighth Route Army General Counselor Xuan Xiafu; to use Hu Zongnan's fake border currency to cheat and conceal the truth, and to publicly deliver urgently needed supplies from the border area to Yan'an. Ma Ying is good at suspense design, and his spy novels were praised by the late famous writer Chen Zhongshi as "the best spy novels in recent years." Ma Ying's novels have calm narratives and rich details, seamlessly blending historical facts with legendary plots. Some details in particular are often unforgettable and impressive.
