About This Novel
In Chengdu, the easiest job is to work in a newspaper office, get food and tea money, and hang out day and night - the so-called "hang" is a very cultural term - this is how I lived in Chengdu in my early years. It's really hard to watch people in Chengdu fight - you can exchange verbal insults all day long, and then continue the exchange the next day, but don't take action. Not taking action is a metaphor. It does not mean that they are all gentlemen, but it means that they are too lazy to take action as long as conditions permit or it is acceptable for the time being.
