About This Novel
"Robinson School", also translated as "Spencer Island", tells the story of the United States' public sale of Spencer Island, a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean three days away from San Francisco. William, who had made his first pot of gold in California many years ago, became the winner of this auction. Godfrey was William's nephew and insisted on going with him. Unexpectedly, the ship crashed at sea and Godfrey was thrown to Spencer Island. Godfrey, who was tired of life in the past, gradually became an enterprising and self-improving young man under the severe test of survival. However, all kinds of disasters followed one after another. When the young man was surrounded by raging flames, William led his team to arrive and rescued his nephew. Verne is good at revealing an unexpected mystery to readers at the end of the story: many of the tests Godfrey endured were carefully planned by his uncle William to test him; equally unexpected, the sudden appearance of the beasts on the island that almost killed Godfrey were vicious revenge for harassing his property by his competitor in the bid for Spencer Island, the billionaire Tuskegee.
