About This Novel

"Stories Heard" selects some featured articles published in the supplement of "Ta Kung Pao Literature and Art" edited by Lin Huiyin that year, including classic short stories by famous writers such as Shen Congwen, Xiao Qian, Lin Huiyin, Lao She, Li Tongyu, Li Jianwu, and Jian Xianai. It shows the different language and writing styles of each writer, and also reproduces the simple or sturdy folk customs of various places during the Republic of China. It reveals the confusion, chaos, hardship and numbness of people's lives in the context of the government's corruption, warlords' melee, and Japanese invasion in the late Qing Dynasty.
