Everyone's Little Book: on Appreciating Both Refined and Popular
by Zhu Ziqing
About This Novel
"On the Appreciation of Refined and Popular People" is a collection of some articles written by Mr. Zhu Ziqing after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. It is the last book written by him during his lifetime. A total of "fourteen essays on literature and art" are included, one-third of which are about poetry, mainly about recitation poetry. In the preface, the author explains the title by saying that he "attempts to understand tradition from a modern standpoint." The so-called "modern standpoint", according to the author's understanding, "can be said to be the standpoint of 'appreciating both refined and popular tastes,' or it can be said to be a standpoint that emphasizes laypeople and ordinary people, or it can be said to be a standpoint close to the people. All the papers in the book speak in this direction."
