The town described in the work is called Tangfangqiao, located in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. The town was formed in the late 19th century. Before the town was formed, there was the Coal River (a manually dug river for transporting coal). After the completion of the Coal River, there were stevedores and a small population because there was a dock here. Later, after the Tangxu Railway was built, there was a train station - Tangfang Station, and the town gradually prospered. The author has lived in this small town since he was a child. Mr. Yang Liyuan's novel collection "Small Town Legends" contains fifty novels he wrote around small towns. In his works, the author looks back at the history of the town, recalls the old events of the town, looks back on old friends and family in the town, and reproduces the past human affairs, events and living conditions of the town.
