"How Steel Was Tempered" tells the story of a proletarian hero. Paul was born into a poor railway worker family. He was naive and naughty since he was a child, and had a strong sense of resistance. With the help of underground watchman Zhu Helai, Paul gradually embarked on the road of revolution. After he went to the front line, he fought bravely, made several meritorious service, and was injured several times. He had to leave the front line because of blindness in his right eye. At the local level, Paul continued to fight on the construction line, working hard day and night regardless of injuries. On the freezing road construction site, Paul and the members of the Communist Youth League struggled against cold, hunger, disease and gang attacks. After suffering the heavy blow of being blind and paralyzed in bed, Paul was not thinking about the length of his life, but how to return to combat duty as soon as possible. He finally found a way to fight with laughter instead of swords, and realized his longed-for ideal of rejoining the team.
