About This Novel

This is a strange book in the history of French literature. It seems absurd and full of nonsense. In fact, it is rich in connotation and covers a wide range of topics. It can be called an encyclopedia of French humanist thoughts during the Renaissance. The book is divided into five parts: the first and second parts expound the various propositions of humanistic theory by narrating the birth, education and great achievements of Gargantua and Panguay; the latter three parts use Panguay, Baruch and other partners to search for the sacred bottle and travel around the country to study marriage problems as clues, showing a broad picture of medieval society, exposing and criticizing the various shortcomings of the society at that time.
