Restless Night
by (netherlands) Marieke Lukas Leinefeld
About This Novel
Yas asked God: Do you have to take away my rabbit? Can't my brother Matisse change it? Ten-year-old Yas has a unique way of experiencing the universe: applying cream on his skin to protect against the harsh winter; the green warts on migrating toads are cloaks... However, Matisse is really dead. The whole family falls apart, and her curiosity begins to twist, forming an increasingly uneasy fantasy whirlpool. The family may deviate from the track of life and fall into darkness... The taboos of faith are broken, the scale of desire is surpassed, and the boundaries between humans and animals are blurred. Yas is full of fear of the dark and keeps asking himself: Are our parents the pests that keep eating away at us...

It's quite picturesque, and the uneasiness gives birth to wings in the imagination. The brokenness of life in the eyes of a child is very depressing
