About This Novel

"Flounder" is a novel by Glass. The work is quite fairy tale-like, using Grimm's fairy tale "The Fisherman and His Wife" as the framework, and doing the opposite, using a unique artistic form to outline nine important stages of human development, revealing the process of dominant men creating violence, pursuing power and reaching the end of the road, and exploring the role of women in promoting real progress, that is, the elimination of hunger. Nine cooks from different eras come to life, and a large number of historical figures and events are integrated into the story. Reality and fantasy are synchronized, and narrative and discussion are intertwined. It reproduces the changes in European history and in a sense depicts a microcosm of the history of Western civilization.
