About This Novel

This book was written by Mark Twain in 1889. It tells the story of the 19th-century American Hank Morgan who traveled through time and space and experienced political ups and downs in medieval England. With knowledge and skills that were 13 centuries ahead of his time, Hank easily ascended to the throne of "Prime Minister" of the Arthurian Dynasty in the 6th century, and embarked on various reforms, determined to turn medieval Britain into a democratic and modern country. Although Hank once created a scene of prosperous industrial civilization, his simple copying behavior that ignored social particularities, misplaced reform concepts, and autocratic rule based on scientific and technological authority laid the foundation for the disillusionment of utopian illusions, and his struggle with the British Church also ended in a massacre. In the operation of power without restraint and supervision, modern technology has eventually become an accomplice in anti-democratic political events and a tamed tool in the hands of the perpetrators of violent events.
