About This Novel

"Beautiful Friend" is the masterpiece of the 19th-century French novelist Maupassant. It was born at the most glorious moment in the speculative activities that marked the historical characteristics of the Third Republic. It describes the lewdness, corruption, pursuit of fame and fortune in the French upper class, and paints a vivid picture of a group of hypocritical and cunning people. It can be called a masterpiece born of the major events of this period. "For nearly half a century, the influence of this novel has never ended, whether in France or the world."

I have seen comments like this: Every man hates Duroy, but every man wants to be him. I have to admit that I have mixed feelings after reading such a book. Morality seems to be a stumbling block to success in the worldly sense in real life, but having no moral bottom line and using unscrupulous means are necessary conditions for success in the worldly sense. So should people pay attention to morality? Maybe it depends on who the person is and what he is pursuing. It is a good and easy-to-understand book with a simple and straightforward plot that may shock the perception of quite a few people, but in real life there are many things that are even more bloody than this plot.
