This book is an autobiographical novel by Dickens, who is called "the author's favorite child". The protagonist David Copperfield was orphaned when he was very young and was raised by his aunt. His childhood was full of ups and downs, and his stepfather abused him in every possible way, so that he had no choice but to run away.
