About This Novel
This is one of Hardy's best works. The male protagonist is only eleven years old, his parents are dead, he is poor, lonely and sentimental, but his young heart has deep ambitions to seek progress. Xi De's experience is a reflection of the desire of a generation of educated young workers to change their status after rural education gradually became popular in Britain in the second half of the 19th century.

Why do I exist and survive? When I thought about this question, I couldn't find the answer. But there must be a reason when you are alive, otherwise it will be no different from death.
Women with ideas and idealism can kill people
The person you miss is slightly warmer than the person in reality.
The initiator of this tragedy was Shu, a woman who read too many books and thought too much. She harmed two men and ultimately destroyed herself. Such a woman is destined to be unhappy no matter what kind of man she meets. Even if the tragic death of the child had not happened, she and Jude would have ended in tragedy.
