About This Novel
This book is the eighth novel by the British novelist Charles Dickens, known as his "favorite child in his heart". The novel tells the life course of the protagonist David from childhood to middle age. Taking the birth of "I" as the source, the sincerity and darkness of friends, the childishness and impulsiveness of love, the sweetness and triviality of marriage, and the conflicts and harmony of family members are gathered into a stream, flowing slowly on the river bed of destiny, and finally blending into the magnificent sea of tolerance. Mixed in with all kinds of characters and opportunities. The language is witty and interesting, showing a broad picture of Britain in the mid-19th century, reflecting Dickens's ideal that the world is full of kindness and justice.
