Artificial Girl
About This Novel
"Artificial Girl" is the first novel by Malaysian Chinese writer Gong Wanhui. In the near future, the world is destroyed due to a plague. A tired father takes his artificial daughter Lilika and treks through the ruins of the city taken over by the rain forest. Through the "doors" of memory, he travels back to the past and experiences the hidden past events. The wife who wants a daughter but can't, endures the pain of youth at the age of fifteen; the teenager who is obsessed with cross-dressing, how to "trap himself" in search of ultimate freedom; the commandos of the Communist Party of Malaysia who are forgotten underground, their faith slowly turns to absurdity in the long night; the father who seeks atonement, hunts endless Pokémon in the wildly growing woods; in the distant outer space, another earth is replicating, will the harm return forever? ... The twelve rooms connect the past events of Stardust, looking for those who are not understood and whose hearts are afraid of being (or have been) hurt. "Artificial Girl" uses delicate and tender brushwork to redeem the pain with poetry and magic.
