About This Novel
The town of Chumi began as a small street. The middle line of the small street is the boundary between the two villages, Shipai Village to the north and Lanbazi Village to the south. There used to be a boundary marker on the dividing line. At that time, Shipai Village and Lanbazi Village were fighting over land, and every time they fought, there would be casualties. The boundary markers were moved here today and moved there tomorrow, and they were knocked down and smashed from time to time. Legend has it that during the Ming Chenghua period, the county magistrate came to Chumi to resolve a dispute. He built a small stone house under the boundary monument and locked up a beggar who came here to beg. Beggars are no longer beggars and are revered as road gods. The boundary monument is protected by the road god. No one dares to move it anymore, and the land boundary is no longer in dispute. During the street reconstruction in 1996, the dirt road was changed to a cement road. Before paving the cement, the street was leveled and large stones were used as roadbed. The soil at the boundary markers was removed. Some people said that they saw it with their own eyes and saw no bones or coffins.
