About This Novel

"The Field of Life and Death" is a classic masterpiece handed down from generation to generation by Xiao Hong. It provides a thorough and profound interpretation of the ancient issue of human nature and human survival. This kind of thinking about life's survival and death exceeds that of most writers of the same generation. Lu Xun called it a picture that "sees through the back of the paper" of "the northern people's tenacity for life and struggle for death."

I have read "The Story of Hulan River" before, and it is relatively more readable. I have picked up the article "The Field of Life and Death" in this book several times, and finally finished it this time. After reading the entire article, I still think it is quite good. Does the field of life and death probably refer to the "death field"? Other articles are shorter and easier to read. The one that impressed me the most was "You Er Bo". Xiao Hong's words always feel like they are her own words, not idioms, they are relatively raw and a bit hard. It doesn't read smoothly either. I just re-read the preface written by Lu Xun. Lu Xun said that this book is about the strength of life and the struggle of death, which can be seen from the back of the paper. I think this is the greatest significance of Xiao Hong's articles.
