About This Novel
"The Boy" is a novel by French writer Marcus Marte, which won the 2016 Femina Literary Prize. The boy, who has no name, grew up in the forests of southern France. After the death of his mother, the boy embarks on a journey driven by his nature. He met many people: Joseph, who was disheartened after losing his lover, Brabetz, a wandering artist, a knight with a broken arm who was brilliant in literature, and Emma, the boy's sister-like lover. During the journey, the boy began to vaguely understand what life is made of: some joys and some twists and turns; some joyous gatherings and many partings. As World War I breaks out, the boy experiences the utter madness of humanity, the Holocaust, and what we call civilization. This is a journey of a young soul; in his ignorance, the boy experienced the big and small events that made history, and began to awaken...
