About This Novel
Chekhov is a world-class master of short stories in Russia and the last critical realist art master in Russia in the late 19th century. Together with the French writer Maupassant and the American writer O. Henry, he is known as one of the "three major short story writers in the world". This collection collects 5 short stories. "The Woman with the Puppy" reveals the depressed mood of women in the old society regarding marriage. "The Black Monk" is a true portrayal of the arrogance of the old intellectuals. "The Jumping Woman" summarizes the characteristics of those vain and frivolous women. "Art" shows the author's sympathy and love for farmers.
