About This Novel
"The Fall" is a satirical novel in which the protagonist Clamons is an intellectual who lives a double life and talks endlessly about his life to another person in a bar. Sartre believed that "The Fall" may be Camus's "most beautiful and least understood book." "Exile and Kingdom" contains six short stories. Camus used the two concepts of exile and kingdom to illustrate the two living states of human beings. Exile is a real state, and kingdom is an ideal state.
