About This Novel
At the beginning of the novel, an unexpected plane collision disaster occurs, leaving only a handful of survivors. What follows in the story is the struggle of this small group of survivors to escape from the shadow of death and pursue their dreams in the young city of Shenzhen. The novel uses the success and failure of the protagonist Ye Chan and his friends in their life struggles, as well as the complicated relationship between him and flight attendant Chen Ni to gain and lose his love. It shows the spiritual outlook and dream temperament of a group of people and a city, and expresses the insignificance, helplessness, confusion and struggle of individuals in modern society in the face of powerful material forces. The rapid changes of the times and the disintegration of social values have made the meaning of life reflected in the thin line between life and death certainly lamentable, but the disputes and choices of survival in Vanity Fair are even more depressing.
