About This Novel

"1984" is Orwell's masterpiece and a famous dystopian and anti-totalitarian political allegory novel in the world of literature. The novel was written in 1948, and the author turned 48 upside down to become 84 as the title. This book tells the story of an imaginary society that implements highly centralized rule, uses extreme means such as changing history, changing language, and breaking up families to suppress people's thoughts and instincts, uses a "telescreen" with surveillance and listening functions to control people's behavior, and uses personality worship of leaders and hatred of domestic and foreign enemies to maintain social operation. Through the life of an ordinary person in this society, Winston Smith, it projects the essence of totalitarianism in real life.

A classic worth reading many times

The book describes a totalitarian society called "Oceania", where humanity is stifled and freedom is deprived. Thoughts are suppressed and life is extremely poor and monotonous. History is being falsified every day, all historical records that are not conducive to rule will be destroyed, memory is no longer reliable, and people live in hatred every day. Human nature has also fallen to the point where it does not distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil. Here everyone's equality is just a slogan to rule the inferior people. The inferior people don't care about freedom at all and only care about their own happiness. As long as they are given a small amount of material, they can be controlled. What are rights? Rights are rights! Having the power to rule the minds of the masses is the most important thing. The world described in this book is horrifying to think about, but also very enlightening.

F Very classic dystopian novel Oceania and Big Brother are depicted everywhere. The magical thing is that the centralized state measures in the novel have also begun to take place in reality. It is also a prophetic book😈

The whole process was very depressing.

Thought enlightenment, deepening of thought, and thought collapse. The cruelty of the rule of the old society.

The pressure is so great that the soul and mind of the person have been crushed away, leaving only a human doll.

Good books refine people's hearts, and everyone will be reborn in society, as long as you still want to live.

This is a good novel, but it is just a novel. This is also the only non-physical book in the dystopian trilogy that I have read. I have been thinking about a question while reading this book. What defeated Winston, what defeated Julia, and what defeated thousands of proletarians was Big Brother's restriction of freedom, or poverty. What if Big Brother could gradually increase the supply of chocolate from 20g to 100g or even limit it, and have everything you need. So what if instead of being abstinent, Big Brother was like Brave New World. So what if Big Brother could provide a "smart guy" like Winston with a dizzying variety of "ideas." Orwell had his own limitations of vision, and I also have my own limitations. After watching "1984", I didn't feel depressed or scared. I just felt that it had nothing to do with me. Maybe we are too close to Huxley's prediction now.
