"The Legend of White Snake" describes the tortuous love story between a snake spirit who cultivated into human form and a human being. The story includes plots such as borrowing an umbrella from a tented boat, the white lady stealing Ganoderma lucidum, flooding the Jinshan Mountain, broken bridges, Leifeng Pagoda, Xu Xian's son Shilin worshiping the Pagoda, etc. It expresses the people's praise and yearning for the free love between men and women and their hatred for the unreasonable restraint of feudal forces. "Meng Jiangnu" is a character in the Chinese folk tale "Meng Jiangnu Cries the Great Wall". Her story is one of the four major Chinese folk love stories. It has been widely circulated among the people through oral inheritance for thousands of years. The earliest legend can be traced back to "Zuo Zhuan".
