About This Novel
The story of "Tianming Village" takes place in the winter of the second year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty. The Taiping Rebellion invaded a village in Qianshan County, Anhui Province without any obstruction along the way. The local officials were busy collecting money, running away, and smoking cigarettes. However, the squire headed by Li Fengchi stood up to defend his hometown and moved all the old and young women into Tianming Village. The men guarded the dangerous place, and were eventually forced to surrender under the siege of the "Long-haired Army". The article reveals the reality that the Tianping Heavenly Kingdom's army is hierarchical and murderous. It also reflects the corrupt and mediocre officialdom of the Qing Dynasty. Caught between the government and the war, civilians can only take up arms to defend their own interests.
