About This Novel
Descartes's masterpiece is also his creation for the public in French rather than Latin. The book is divided into six parts: 1. Views on various disciplines; 2. Several principles for the author's pursuit of this method; 3. Several codes of conduct derived from this method; 4. Reasons used by the author to prove the existence of God and the existence of the human soul; 5. A series of physical problems that the author has studied; 6. What the author believes must be done to further advance natural research, and the reasons that prompted him to write this book. This book is recognized as the manifesto of modern philosophy and has set up the banner of rationalist epistemology. It was precisely based on these methods that Descartes "slowly raised himself to the level that his intelligence and life allowed" and invented important tools for the development of modern science such as analytic geometry and the rectangular coordinate system. This edition also includes a selection of Descartes' early letters.
