I tried to read this book more than twenty years ago, and picked it up two or three times in the meantime, but I have never finished it. This time I read it almost without stopping. Carrots and Greens have their own merits, and they are not my favorite kind of books. However, although this story does not involve many characters, I am surprised that the author, who is less than thirty years old, wrote such a solid article. It seems that the author has no intention of writing a grand narrative of several generations. Like some writers, he saw the intention and ambition when he started writing. But in fact it involves three generations. The story structure is also surprisingly complete, with no flaws. It is really unimaginable that a woman under thirty can have so much life experience and write such a long work. All we can say is that success or failure depends on God. Sometimes God's will is needed, and it cannot be achieved by simple human intentions.
