The Killer's Mnemonic
About This Novel
My name is Kim Byung-soo, I am seventy years old, and I was recently diagnosed by a doctor with Alzheimer's disease. The memory fell into pieces and I began to forget many things, such as the time of my last murder. Under the bamboo forest in the backyard, the body lay silently in the dirt. They turned into bamboos and towered into the clouds. When burying them, I always kept saying: I can do better next time. I like to write about the process of killing people, just like writing a poem. Now God has decided what punishment will be given to me - I am walking into oblivion. I am not afraid of death, nor can I prevent forgetfulness. I only care about one thing, and that is to prevent my adopted daughter Eun-hee from being killed by that man, before all my memories disappear. This is my karma and karma in this life.
