About This Novel
"The Plague" and "The Stranger" (1942) selected in this book are Camus's most important masterpieces, and both are listed as masterpieces of modern world literature. The background of "The Plague" is a commercial city in the Mediterranean region of North Africa. In the novel, Camus used meticulous writing to describe the loneliness, fear, anxiety, pain, struggle and struggle of people in this isolated city where the plague broke out. "The Outsider" describes the process of a young man named Mossot from the time he buried his mother to the time he was sentenced to death after being imprisoned for causing death in self-defense. The novel describes Mossot's inner world in a calm and monotonous language.

I can only read it as a story.
"Even the most sincere sorrow had to be grappled with in the formulas of everyday conversation, and it was only by means of this expression that the prisoners of the plague could secure the sympathy of their guards and the interest of their listeners."
The translation is a bit slow and the reading experience is not smooth enough
I recommend Guo Hongan's translation published by Yilin Publishing House as better. The translators all have philosophical backgrounds, by the way. Camus himself was a philosopher
The extraordinary events in this documentary novel took place in the city of Oran in the 1940s. Considering the special nature of the incident, people were surprised. Because the city of Oran first gives people an ordinary impression. It is just a large port on the coast of French Algeria and the capital of a province.
As someone who has lived in France for many years and has many Algerian friends, I feel very touched.

Only one person (the doctor's wife) survived the plague.
A good book to read carefully.
It's okay. The translation is a bit slow, but it's acceptable!
