About This Novel

"Ye Shengtao's Prose" selects prose works created by the Chinese language master Ye Shengtao. Among the freehand brushwork in the south of the Yangtze River, the description of the world, and the past stories of old friends, it includes articles such as "A Place Without Autumn Insects", "Two Caves in Jinhua" and "Becoming a Father". Ye Shengtao is a senior literary critic and connoisseur. As early as the May Fourth period, he wrote many insightful new literary criticisms. In the 1930s, he and his close friends Zhu Ziqing and Yu Pingbo jointly created Interpretation Poetics. Zhu and Yu respectively focused on the ontological analysis of new vernacular poetry and classical poetry. Ye, on the other hand, pioneered the trend based on aesthetic principles and took the lead in proposing diversified judgments and value judgments on the outstanding works that emerged in the New Literature Movement. He made an in-depth micro-perspective analysis of modern novels, prose, and poetry, and made a unique contribution to the aesthetic appreciation of modern Chinese literature, poetry, and novels. In addition, as a realist master in the history of new literature, Ye Shengtao advocated that literature reflect life and describe the "blood and tears" life of ordinary people. He is particularly good at expressing the lives of women, children and ordinary citizens. His works show an ideal realm of life - love, beauty and light.
