About This Novel
I, Liang Yuan, a young man who has just graduated from the Chinese Department of the University, with my love for traditional culture, especially my obsession with Kun Opera, stepped into the Lanyun Society, a folk Kun Opera troupe that was on the verge of dissolution. In the troupe, there is the skilled but stubborn old pillar Master Zhou Yanqiu, who regards the stage as life and is extremely resistant to any form of innovation; and the tough and pragmatic leader Qin Sufen, who struggles to mediate between artistic ideals and survival reality. I joined with the feeling of "saving" the troupe, and proposed using new media and new communication methods to revitalize Kunqu Opera, but I met with fierce opposition from Master Zhou. A fierce conflict broke out between us, and sparks flew from the collision of ideas. However, during a public benefit performance in the park, a child's curious participation and his mother's smile made me see new possibilities for the inheritance of Kun Opera. Faced with the troupe's difficulties and Master Zhou's stubbornness, I did not give up. Instead, I kept trying and recorded every precious moment with new media. In the end, my efforts were partially recognized, and the troupe found a new way to survive and spread in the cracks. In this process, I learned to add responsibility and propriety to my enthusiasm, and gained a deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of artistic inheritance.
