About This Novel

"Detective Story" is the masterpiece novella by Kertés Imre, the 2002 Nobel Prize winner in Literature, and includes three chapters. The title story "Detective Story" is set in an imaginary South American country. The protagonist Martens is a secret policeman of the dictatorship. He participated in the crime of accusing Salinas and his son of treason and brutally murdering them. He wrote his confession in prison. In "The Tracer", the protagonist takes his mysterious mission to search for the old site of the concentration camp, hoping to find "traces" that can awaken historical memories, but he fails everywhere he goes. "Transcript" writes about the protagonist's experience taking an international train from Budapest to Vienna. These novels together form the outline and essence of Imre's novels.
