About This Novel
"Water Margin", also known as "Water Margin of Loyalty and Righteousness", generally referred to as "Water Margin", was written in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties and is one of China's four great classics. The whole book describes the story of 108 people led by Song Jiang who gathered in Liangshan in the late Northern Song Dynasty, and how they accepted recruitment and fought in various places after gathering. Written by Shi Naian and edited by Luo Guanzhong, Shi Naian's ancestral home is said to be Suzhou[1] and Xinghua, present-day Jiangsu. "Water Margin" is also one of the most epic works in Chinese literature. It is one of the earliest chapter novels written in vernacular Chinese in Chinese history. There are many versions, it is widely circulated and popular among the people. It has a profound influence on narrative literature in China and even East Asia.
