About This Novel
Guan Hanqing is one of the greatest dramatists and writers in my country, and one of the four great masters of Yuan opera. The most famous of his works is "The Injustice of Dou E", which describes the injustice suffered by an ordinary woman: the young widow Dou E was innocently sentenced to death by the government. Wang Guowei said that "The Injustice of Dou E" "is worthy of being listed among the world's great tragedies." This book includes a total of eight dramas and several sanqu selected from Guan Hanqing's extant works. There are two main criteria for selection: first, it can be confirmed to be Guan's work; second, it is artistically distinctive and has a greater impact.
