About This Novel
"Beautiful Friend" is Maupassant's famous novel. It caused a sensation once it was published. It was reprinted more than 30 times within a few months and received widespread praise. Even Engels said he would "take off his hat" to Maupassant. The story takes place in Paris, France, in the second half of the 19th century. The protagonist Duroy met an old comrade in arms when he was impoverished, and later became a reporter for "La Vie Française." Through his good looks and the means of pleasing women, he used three women to gain positions, and eventually became the son-in-law of a millionaire and a celebrity in Paris's upper class. The end of the novel hints that he will soon become a Senate and Cabinet minister, and his future is still bright! Maupassant used vivid stories, delicate techniques and fresh language to depict the promiscuous behavior of male thieves and female prostitutes in the upper class society of Paris in the second half of the 19th century. He also sharply criticized and attacked the collusion between the political, journalistic and financial circles. Since its publication, the novel has been translated into many languages and has been a best-seller to this day.

good book
It's a very good book. I don't know why so few people have read it. I highly recommend it.
Duroy, the son of a small hotel owner from Normandy, a French soldier who voluntarily returned from Africa, an ordinary employee in the railway office, and most importantly, a man with good looks and full of charm.
"When people are weak, snakes swallow elephants." "The authorities are confused, but the bystanders are clear." With Duroy's success, he gradually expanded, from a helpless little fox surviving in the deep forest to a poisonous snake strategist trying to usurp the throne beside the king of the forest. His actions became more and more disgusting and unbearable.
The plot is exciting, I never thought it would end like this! ! Amazing, I have to admire it

George was full of gratitude and respect for his friends at first. Later, after being despised and ridiculed by his friends, he began to have hatred and revenge. This hatred had already existed for a long time because of his long-term unsatisfactory life, but now it has grown even more crazily. In fact, a lot of hatred often makes people more motivated to pursue fame and fortune and so-called success by any means necessary.
