About This Novel

When the Pacific War broke out and Singapore fell, Yu Dafu was forced to flee to Indonesia and settled in Sumatra. He hid his identity, opened a local winery, married a wife and had children. He was recruited by the Japanese military police as a translator, and thus mastered a large amount of criminal evidence against the Japanese military police. After Japan surrendered, Yu Dafu disappeared. Masao Suzuki, a Japanese Yu Dafu researcher, devoted half his life to tracing the truth about the martyrdom of Yu Dafu. He had close contact with many military police who were stationed in Indonesia during the Pacific War. He identified and interviewed the military police captain who ordered Yu Dafu's murder, and solved the mystery of Yu Dafu's disappearance. This book is considered an important work on the study of Yu Dafu's activities in Indonesia. In 1996, it won the first Yu Hua and Yu Dafu Martyrs Literature and Art Award. This time, the translation has been revised, and more than 70 precious influential materials have been selected and made public for the first time.
