About This Novel

This book is a collection of scripts by the famous screenwriter He Jiping, including two of her representative plays "The First Floor in the World" and "De Ling and Ci Xi". "The First Floor in the World" mainly tells a series of stories that happened in Fujude, a time-honored brand in Beijing: The crisis-ridden Fujude gradually improved under the painstaking management of the shopkeeper Lu Mengshi, but eventually it declined under the internal and external pressure of the owner's two young masters, employees, and the government. "The First Floor in the World" is hailed as a classic work of contemporary realism. It has been performed more than 500 times and is one of the classic repertoires of the Beijing People's Art Theatre. At the same time, "The First Floor in the World" was selected into the Ministry of Education's new junior high school Chinese textbook. In 2004, it was adapted into a TV series of the same name, starring Weizi, Li Guangfu, Wang Ji, Zhang Jiayi and others.
