This set of books is the first complete work of Shakespeare in verse in the Chinese-speaking world. The original form of Shakespeare's drama is a verse drama, which is a verse drama with blank verse as its basic form. Translating poetry into verse, trying to make the translation closer to the original appearance of Shakespeare's drama in terms of tone and language rhythm, is the ultimate appeal of this version. "Historical Drama Volume 2" contains three English historical plays written by Shakespeare. "Henry VI" is Shakespeare's first work, written around 1590-1592. Henry VI had a 14-year history in which the British feudal rule suffered a series of major blows. In France, the Anglo-French war was still going on; in England, the Royal House of Lancaster and the Royal House of York launched the protracted "War of the Roses." "Richard III" is a work by the British playwright William Shakespeare. It realistically describes the short reign of Richard III. The play is believed to have been written around 1591. After Shakespeare completed "Henry VI", he understood that the audience expected a beginning and end of the War of the Roses on the stage, so he wrote "Richard III" following the historical trajectory of "Henry VI". "Henry VIII" is a historical drama created by Shakespeare in his later years after the legendary plays. It is different from his early historical dramas. It has no bloodshed of revenge, no conspiracy to riot, no coup, no war. Some Shakespeare scholars call it "a historical drama without corpses."
