About This Novel
"Petro Goriot" is one of the outstanding works of Balzac, the great French writer of the 19th century. It deeply depicts the naked money relationship between people in the capitalist world. Goriot's two daughters have always lived a luxurious life under the care of Goriot. One of them climbed up the aristocracy, entered the upper class, and became the newly rich Countess Resto; the other liked money, married a banker, and became Mrs. Nucingen. When they got married, each of them received a dowry of 800,000 francs, so they were flattering and considerate to their father in every possible way. But soon, the two precious daughters kicked their father out of the door and let him live a shabby life in the dilapidated Vauquer apartment. "Petro Goriot" describes the despicable crimes of the ruling class in detail through the tragedy of Goriot, criticizes the social reality of rampant materialism and ugly human nature, and exposes the loss of personality of the bourgeoisie under the control of money power and the naked money relationship between people.

Old Man Goriot doted on his children too much, giving everything he had and giving unreasonably. The second daughter he raised was vain and selfish, which led to his final tragedy;
The darkness of society and the corrupt social atmosphere have led to the indifference of people's hearts. Underneath the glamorous body is just a dry and ugly soul. The tragic ending of Old Man Goriot made him want to join the upper class. Ou Ye was discouraged. As I read it, I felt more and more heartbroken and had mixed emotions.
The angel daughter in the heart of the hard-working old man never cherished his fatherly love, and his daughter no longer had any contact with her father except for money. Before he died, he realized that his two daughters had never loved him.
The story has a rich plot, but the description of the opening scene is too boring. The shortcoming is that the character names are not fixed, Eugene = college student = Lars... At the end, the ghost is fooled and says a few words to the protagonist, which is perfect. Overall, it is very good!
