About This Novel

The plot of The Thirty-Nine Steps is roughly as follows: Mining engineer Richard Hannay returns from southern Africa to his London apartment. When I was feeling bored, an unexpected guest came. This man's name is Scudder, and he is an American. He discovered that a spy organization code-named "Blackstone" was actively planning a plot to assassinate the British Prime Minister. The purpose is to cause further chaos in the UK domestic situation. They wanted to take advantage of the chaos to steal an important piece of national defense and military intelligence. Scudder discovered this shocking secret while tracking a member of the organization. But at the same time, he is also in danger of being silenced at any time after being discovered by the other party. Hannay believed this man's words and agreed to let Scudder stay in his apartment for a few days to wait for an opportunity. However, Hannay soon discovered that things were getting out of control and his situation became more dangerous. So he decided to flee to Scotland to avoid the double pursuit of the police and the "Black Stone".
