Because I read the book Bungou Stray Dogs, I hope I will like Rashomon as much as I like Akutagawa.
Hell on earth is here
How long does it take for a good person to turn bad? Three to five years? How many months? In Rashomon, the fall between good and evil and justice only takes a moment. Restore the story in the first person: Due to years of natural and man-made disasters and the decline of Kyoto, I had no choice but to sit under the Rashomon Gate and ponder whether I should starve to death or become a bandit. While he was hesitating, he noticed someone on the gatehouse. When he went up, he saw an old woman pulling out the dead man's hair. She strangled the dead man's neck with one hand, and pulled out the hair one by one with the other hand. This scene is really appalling. If you ask me the question again at this moment: starve to death or survive in this vicious world, I will choose a vicious death without hesitation. I drew my sword and pointed it at her and asked her why she did this. She said that she could sell her hair into buns and then said that none of these dead people were innocent. At this moment, my heart suddenly fell to the ground, broken but also at ease. In an instant, I made a new decision. I snatched away the old woman's clothes, pushed her down into the pile of dead people, and then walked away into the dark night. There are actually many examples of good people turning evil, such as falling into the woods and turning into bandits; being in an officialdom and gradually decaying; or being in troubled times of famine and changing children to eat... But in these stories, human nature is lost step by step, and in Rashomon, this kind of face-to-face handover of the baton between good and evil is really amazing. No! It should be panic! It's like good and evil are two opportunists. They don't fight at all. They have discussed it and have a tacit agreement to appear when they should appear and disappear when they should disappear. If it does not appear, it is because there are not enough chips. Still didn't show up, maybe just lacking a seemingly reasonable excuse. An acquaintance commits a crime, a spur-of-the-moment idea, someone who steals someone's money... The human heart is like the sea, and there will always be a moment when a devil flashes through the heart of a saint. If the world is so chaotic that everyone faces such a choice in their hearts, then what is this but hell on earth?
All in all, just give it five stars. Plus one from Bungou Stray Dogs.
People are weaving lies for profit, but the truth is not known, which is called "Rashomon".
The prototypes of most Japanese novels or legendary characters' deeds come from ancient Chinese novels, and are deeply influenced by the Four Great Classics.
Human selfishness and deception People hold tightly to the silky light in their souls, but ignore the vast obscene darkness. There is no real saint, and the opposite of lies is tolerance.
There seems to be a little bit of new hope in the depressing despair
It gives me the same feeling as above. It's a good book, but I don't recommend it to everyone. (After all, the old era has passed, 24-character core values protect the body)
Can
There are not many books that are so unforgettable.
Wonderful, worth seeing
Life may really be inferior to that of Baudelaire, but Ryunosuke Akutagawa, who tortures himself with a kind of skepticism, may really yearn for a bright future.
