Through Sun Wukong traveling through the four realms of heaven, earth, underworld, and water, he depicts the features of the four realms and constructs a world that is both virtual and real; Chapters 8 to 12 describe the appearance of Tang Monk. The story of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty entering the underworld explains the reason why Tang Monk went to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures; Chapters 13 to 100 tell the story of Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Monk Sha, and White Dragon Horse protecting Monk Tang to obtain Buddhist scriptures from the West. Since this book is long and contains many difficult words, the editor specially compiled a concise picture of Monk Tang's Buddhist scriptures from the West, and also notated the difficult words to make it easier for readers to read and identify.
