About This Novel

Germinal is the first "social history" novel about miners. The novel is divided into seven parts. The first four parts are introduction, beginning, development, and depth. They repeatedly explain the miserable working and living conditions of the miners, and pave the way for the emergence, expansion, and rise of the miners' resistance. The fifth part is the climax of the book. The resentment accumulated by the miners for generations is finally uncontrollable, and the strike is brewing and matures and breaks out naturally. The sixth and seventh parts write about the results of the strike, the failure and the ending.
