The trilogy "One Step Between Red and Black", "No Way to Retreat", "Chariots, Horses and Artillery", and "Generals and Soldiers in Harmony" are novels that have rarely been seen in China so far. They promote Chinese chess culture, use realist artistic techniques, and vividly depict how people in the workplace, business people, and officialdom grasp the ups and downs of their fate in the turbulent real estate economy. The trilogy "One Step Between Red and Black" takes Zhuge Nanmiao, a laid-off bank cadre, to go to Suicheng to work in the south and then return to his hometown as the main line.
